We actually managed to perform the show on several occasions during the winter of '85-'86.

These are the only photos I have of any of the performances. The shots without flash allow you to see what it looked like, but you can't really see Mike and I. The shots with the flash completely wash out the image on the screen (which was never actually blank), but they do allow you to see what was going on. You'll have to combine the images in your imagination to visualize what it looked like.

Notice the Otari and mixing console on the left side of the picture. Behind the screen is a bass amp, a guitar amp and a keyboard amp, each playing a different instrument. If you closed your eyes, it was like a band was playing. The slide rig is near the right.

One of my biggest regrets is that I never got a video tape of any of this material during this period.

We had another chance to fire all of this up when we were teaching at the Art Institute. Without getting too far ahead in the story, there are two very crude and incomplete videos of us doing the show much later (around 1992) at a jam session. These versions of Kaleidoscope and Planetary Breakdown will give you some idea of what the slide show looked like. Unfortunately, the room was too dark to get any usable footage of us. There are a lot of rough spots in these, and Kaleidoscope starts about half way into the song, but this is all of the video that I have right now.

In July 2004, I managed to use computer software to reconstitute the slide show. I scanned over 1500 slide images from the original show and combined them with current versions of 13 of the songs. This allowed me to create a DVD of the slide show. Of course it consists only of the slides. There is no live action footage of us playing.

The current versions of these slide shows (as well as recordings of all of the songs) are available as streaming clips on the Color page.
