In the meantime, I started doing a lot of open mic nights in Dallas. There were two or three a week here, from blues with a backup band to solo guitar stuff. I met some guys who had put a band together and had lost their bass player just before they were ready to start gigging. I stepped in and played with these guys for 4 months. We had a lot of fun. They were called Ask Mr. Ed.

The guy on the right was the boss (check him out). He didn't like my black Fender Precision fretless. He worked in a music store at the mall, so he brought this pink one for me to play instead. Go figure.
Soon after, I met up with a couple of guys named Dave Mercer and Greg Holman. I have done several stints with them as Casting Shadows. Dave writes pop songs and gets people to play and sing them. He plays rhythm guitar and Greg plays drums and sometimes sings. Here is an incarnation with Rachael Albright (vocals) and Doyle Maston (bass). Good group. Very creative environment.
